This week, we're offering a staggeringly rare piece - a resin model kit featuring "chibi" or "superdeformed" versions of the denizens of Jabba's Palace, as seen in RETURN OF THE JEDI.
This 38-piece kit includes eight separate characters: Jabba the Hutt with hookah/food bowl, Princess Leia in her slave outfit (aka the "Huttslayer") with real chains, Salacious Crumb, C-3PO, Bib Fortuna, a carbonite-frozen Han Solo, a Jawa with palm frond, the original Mandalorian Boba Fett, and a dais for them all to perch on, complete with gargoyle heads. This exquisitely detailed miniature resin kit was sculpted and manufactured in the late 1980s or early 1990s by Eichi Mogi, owner of the renowned Japanese garage kit company Monster Shop (or "Monstar Shop" as it was sometimes stylized - see bottom of the dais). This original set was acquired directly from Mogi on its original release in the mid-1990s and has been out of production for decades. An incredibly rare Star Wars piece-we've never seen one for sale online. Interest in this kit spiked when it was included in Amazing Figure Modeler's Star Wars issue, but kits were virtually unfindable before or after.
We've included a scan of a page of the magazine to show one possible build, though please note that a few elements of that version were custom-made for the magazine. Please see photos carefully, or ask questions if anything is difficult to see.We'll include a complimentary copy of the magazine, both as a companion piece and a helpful guide to building and painting. Humanoid characters measure roughly 3 to 4 inches tall. The kit comes brand new, UNASSEMBLED and UNPAINTED and includes the original instructions in Japanese text. Original box white cardboard box with the color photo of Mogi's own build-up attached is included.
